Choosing VIM Color Scheme

screenshot of VIM color schemes

VIM Color Scheme Test shows VIM in >300 different color schemes. There’s a lot to choose from.

I currently use MacVim and its default color scheme. Will need to find a good color scheme to use in the fullscreen mode (Cmd-Shift-F). I had a custom scheme installed in Komodo Edit but I have not used this editor in a while.

What are your favorite code editors / IDEs and what color schemes do you use?

ps_color for Vim. I've been using it for years, and it keeps my eyes happy.

ps_color is very mild indeed. freya and carvedwood might also be good on eyes.

I might need more contrast between colors, though, such as in neon or darkocean.

Using CarbonEmacs with standard black on white background. I was told this color scheme was the easiest on the eyes! Anyone confirm that? ;)

Hey, Nuno, happy new year! :)

I liked golden / yellow on black background on (old) Hercules monitors (well, those were probably the only 2 colors you could get on them, with maybe some gradations inbetween).

Re. just using black on white background - don't you use code highlighting? Also wondering if this color combination is easier on the eyes or not. (I think not)

Happy new year for you too!

For code highlighting I use the emacs standards. It depends on the mode but generally is very soft: dark blue for reserved words and functions and dark red for comments
